The River, the Road, the RailIt was the convergence of three major transportation routesthe Ohio River, the National Road and the B&O Railroadthat played the crucial role in bringing people and products to and from Wheeling.
Wheeling, VA grew quickly from an outpost on the state’s western border to an important industrial city second only to Richmond. In addition to nationally recognized LaBelle Cut Nails, Marsh Stogies and Mail Pouch Tobacco, by latest count, 718 other products were “Made in Wheeling” (now West Virginia).
